Day 0 of the Long Way Euround is finally here!
After months of planning and anxiously waiting to head off, it feels amazing to finally be on the road. Day 0 saw us all make our own way from Sydney to Bathurst.
For me that meant finishing work a little early, filling the car up with fuel and heading off for the 3 hour drive to our hotel. I managed to leave Sydney at around 4:00 and the GPS took me onto the M5-M7-M4-Blue Mountains and on to Bathurst.
This first drive was quite uneventful except for a some traffic. I was surprised that the traffic didn’t really ease up as I got further away from Sydney, although the biggest issue was getting stuck behind some trucks.
By the time I finally arrived at Bathurst, it was 7:00pm and quite dark. Most of the group had arrived earlier and headed to the pub for a drink and some dinner. Naturally I joined them and it was great catching up with friends.
Although the car ran flawlessly on the way to Bathurst, I am a little worried about the way it was running between the pub and the hotel. It seems to be idling a little low and may have been misfiring. It was only 1km from pub to hotel, so I wasn’t really able to analyse it during the drive. I’ll have to check it out more closely in the morning.
After dinner we settled into our hotel rooms. It’s an early start tomorrow. Engines running at 6:15 for a 6:30 departure as we head to Young for breakfast.
